The Frill Saree

As little girls, frills had a special place in our hearts. The cute wavy fabric made us feel like little princesses.Unfortunately societal norms decide for us age appropriate wear. The little frills that were such a integral part of our daily wear fade away with our sweet innocence.
The first time I saw the frill saree my heart just leaped with joy. What a wonderful marriage of the adult saree with the cuteness of the frill. A design feature till date of the frock a dress worn by little girls and not women.
In subtle candy colors the saree can make a adult woman feel like the little princess that she once was. That is the beauty of clothes. They are not just a utility but they represent your mind, they can speak volumes with their style and color.
This saree for sure can make you feel like the sweet innocent little princess, beautiful and innocent surrounded by the pomp of frills encompassing you in the flowing fabric.

Chanderi weaves its simple yet striking magic

It is the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi and today is my final post in the series "simple but stylish." I hope that you have enjoyed reading them as much I have writing them for you. India is a land of diversity yet we are united by our love for all things common to us. The saree is an absolute classic example as how we are ultimately bound together through a common thread. Despite the thread being woven in different styles and colors. Today's feature is the "Chanderi" the origin of this saree is in a small town of Chanderi in Madhypradesh .

For me the "Chanderi" Saree is an epitome of simple but stylish the fabric is simply ethereal due to its softness and transparency. The slight embroidery in golden or silver thread elevate the fabric to give it a richness that makes the saree special. Making it my favorite choice for the series a north Indian beauty for a festival originated in the Deccan plateau.

Narayanpeth "The simple yet bold Saree" - Welcome Lord Ganesha in Style

In our tradition and culture it is imperative that for certain rituals you have to wear only silk. Silk in India is worn mostly on occasion and silk sarees for these occasions are heavily embroidered with zari. If keeping it simple is your theme this year while celebrating the arrival of Lord Ganesha then the Narayanpeth Saree is perfect for you. It is the perfect blend of festive yet not screaming for attention a choice perfect for the woman on the go.

The history of the Narayanpeth Saree is very interesting. It is believed that in 1630 AD, Maratha King Chatrapati Shivaji on his travels camped at the Narayanpeth region. When he moved ahead on his journey few of the weavers accompanying him stayed behind. Hence the birth of the Narayanpeth sarees with a heavy Maratha influence.

The sarees are a merger of two distinct colors with the pallu showcasing unique rudraksh patterns on Pallu.

The simplicity and beauty of the Ilkal Saree " The festival of Lord Ganesh and what you could wear"

Simple is beautiful, in today's fast paced life of constantly trying to better each other, there is no space to accept simplicity. Be it in clothes, food or our life choices we are trying to dazzle the people around us.

What we seem to forget is there is a grace in simplicity which overshadows the most embellished piece of cloth. It stands tall with its clean lines and solid color making its pristine existence drown out all the other noise.

This being my what to wear for the Ganpati Festival series the theme is "Simplicity with Panache" one of the sarees that absolutely fits this bill is the "Ilkal Saree"

This is a Ilkal in cotton fabric

Ilkal Saree takes its name from the town of Ilkal in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka state.  Ilkal sarees are woven using cotton warp on the body and art silk warp for border and art silk warp for the Pallu.

This purple hue with a red border is simply stunning. Silver jewelry worn with it will make you look like a goddess form yesteryear

The most distinctive feature of  the Ilkal Sree is the use of a form of embroidery called Kasuti. The designs used in kasuti reflect traditional patterns like palanquins, elephants and lotuses. These sarees are usually nine yards in length and the pallu of the Ikal saree carries designs of temple towers. The end region of the pallu is made up of pattens of different shapes like hanige (comb), Koti Kammli (fort ramparts), toputenne (jowar) and rampa(mountain range).

Ganesh Chaturthi and your Saree Style quotient !

The festival season has begun and knocking at our door will soon be Lord Ganesha who is known to remove all obstacles and evils. There are a lot of preparations in store for his arrival and usually the woman of the house gets busy getting everything done to perfection. Take into consideration the rain gods who are still visiting us,  dressing up for the occasion becomes quite difficult for her.

This series is about the various options for the lady of the house, so that this Ganpati festival she can welcome the God in style at the same time keeping it classic, simple and easy to handle. Not to mention while looking gorgeous.

Continuing with my Flower series I think it would be a great idea this year to don a flower print or embroidered  saree for the occasion, what would be more ideal than to offer prayers looking fresh and beautiful as a flower.
